Is gaming dangerous ?

S.E.I 's research on education covers a wide variety of social aspects, with internet-computer gaming becoming an even more important aspect under consideration.  Lest you think less of such an activity as an education and social "tool", remember that research, as early as 2012, has already confirmed that gaming does help participants acheive better health, wellness and certainly happiness, among other benefits.  Case in point are three articles in Psychology Today, written by Dr. Peter Gray. One is dated in January 2012 and titled "The Many Benefits, for Kids, of Playing Video Games", while a second one in February of the same year, titled "Video Game Addiction: Does it Occur? If so, Why?".  His most recent article, on February 20, 2015, is titled "Cognitive Benefits of Playing Video Games".  That article even includes references to supporting studies... for those interested in getting a deeper knowledge-understanding of the subject.  Other articles of interest:  "12 Surprising Health Benefits of Playing Video Games." and "15 Surprising Benefits of Playing Video Games."

Please, don't discourage your child from using "modern day tools" to improve their advantages in acheiving success in their studies.

But caution! ...such gaming should be undertaken in moderation.

Today I wish to speak on a subject that can be seen all over the world.

There are children who have nearly nothing but a roof over their head and have to suffer in silence as nobody will stand up for them.  There have been many experiments proving that how a child looks will adversely effect how people interact with them, which is so sad as those who have no ability to look " smart " try to survive but are brushed aside as they are not seen as “welcomed”, unlike a child who has clean clothes and looks as society classes as “approved”.   It breaks my heart seeing such.

I myself have seen first hand one such child.  I wish I could do more to help her but I am not truly able to.  She can not even go to school due to not owning such a stupid piece of paper as the "hukou" which allows a child access to medical help, education, etc.  I help her whenever I can as it is a way of helping her future become bright and not take a dark path that will forever torment her and may lead to worse things.

So I ask you all to help such children when you can as it is them who will shape our future, not just the spoiled children who get what ever they want.

A true utopian future is not made by those who have never felt hardship.

It is made by those who have suffered and know what changes need to be… should be made.

Greetings one and all.  As the Year of the Monkey slowly climbs to the top of the tree and is due to leave us soon, we see at the base the noble Rooster ready to lead us into a great year.  It is a special time for me also as it is my Chinese zodiac sign too.  So I wish all a great and wonderful year with peace of mind and the luck that fate has for us.  We at S.E.I  continue to strive towards a brighter future for all Global Villagers.

Greetings one and all to my first official blog entry. 

I have been thinking hard on what to say.

While listening to a song I got an inkling of what to say.  The song laid out some words that touched me.  I hope it also touches you.

The song is titled “If Today Was Your Last Day” by Nickelback.

Part of the lyrics go like this:

“Each day's a gift and not a given right.
Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind
and try to take the path less travelled by.
That first step you take is the longest stride”

and

“Against the grain should be a way of life.
What's worth the prize is always worth the fight.”

We should all strive for our own path and aim for what we believe, as our dreams are something we should not leave by the wayside.  We should work towards that dream as we at SEI dream for a GVM and we work ever so much step by step bringing it closer.

As we draw closer to the end of the year, I think upon what we have done in this past year.  I have seen that we have covered a great deal of things and we have all learned a great deal in how to be as one family and GVM.  Also the library events have gone great and our chairman has covered a great many things.  I strongly believe that we have all learned a great deal and for this coming year we can move a step closer to the GVM we all dream becoming a reality.
